Openings and Closings
CLOSING: Al Maktoum Goods. (417 7th Avenue) We are so sad to see this shop close, but they are picking up and relocating to the Pacific Northwest. Stop by to wish Aliou the best and pick up some quality fair trade decor from West Africa all on sale. (Open until May 29th)
CLOSING: The Mac Support Store. (168 7th Street) After 17 years Jeff and Judi are moving on. They’ll be auctioning off their remaining inventory. Subscribe here for further announcements on sales.
OPENING: Vintage Digs 7th Avenue. (16th and Windsor) Welcome, Leon and come check their reasonably priced antiques, jewelry and gently-used treasures.
The First Street Fair of the Year!
5th Avenue Fair: In addition to JapanFes and the Philippines Fest (see Sunday events below) there’s 18 blocks of fair on Sunday. Participating local stores including Galaxy Comics, Lullaby Baby, Annie's Blue Ribbon General Store, O'live Brooklyn, Leopoldis and Giftman.
Participating restaurants and bars include new spots (Grounded Cafe, Casita Cafe, Black Oak, Aunt Butchie’s) and neighborhood standbys (Bogota, Negril BK, Wild Gluten Free, Smith's Tavern and The Monro.) Services for pets include Doggy Daycare, Paws in Paradise and Prospect Bark. Diversions for kids include rides between 10-11 and Puppetry Arts Star Wars characters between Garfield-1st Streets. (11:00 AM, 5th Avenue from Sterling Place to 12th Street)
And of course live music, performances and rides along Fifth Avenue including Spoke the Hub performances at Union Street; Kids Rock for Kids between 11-12 Streets; Park Slope Family Chiropractic and Nutrition band between Carroll and President; Smith Tavern band at 9th St; The Commissioner band between Garfield and Carroll; Grace Music Studios between Douglas and Degraw.
