Entry to BBG’s 2025 Greenest Block in Brooklyn contest is now open! 🏡”The purpose of the contest is to promote streetscape gardening in the borough of Brooklyn through block associations and other community groups. 🏺Hey Clay Pottery Studio in Gowanus: Fundraising for Spring Opening: “Pottery studios require a lot of capital to set up. Our initial equipment list includes 25 wheels (25 lbs and 100 lbs throwing capacity), 3 kilns, 1 pug mill, slab roller, an extruder and an extensive shelving system. In order to meet our funding needs comfortably, we are turning to our community to help us bridge a gap of $45,000 to put towards this essential infrastructure. Crowdfunding this gap made sense for us - it is an opportunity for us to share with people what we have been up to, why we are doing this and what they can look forward to.” (Hey Clay Pottery Studio)
News and Links
🕰The Origins of Ansonia Court: “On 7th Avenue between 12th and 13th Streets, the familiar streetscape is broken up by a massive building that's unlike any other in the neighborhood … In the 1880s, the factory could churn out 10,000 clocks and watches a day in 225 models, and at its 1914 height it sold more than 440 clock models. World War I, the Depression, and bad business decisions killed the business, though, and by 1929 most of the clockmaking machinery (and skilled workers) were sold to the Russian government.” (Here’s Park Slope)
🏠This Park Slope Brownstone Was Fought Over For Years. Then Gunshots Rang Out. “While the ownership battle has played out, neighbors say the brownstone’s residents have included a group calling itself a church, a man who was evicted by city marshals, and the current residents. No one answered the door at the address on Tuesday, but John McBride, the neighbor, said he saw one of the residents who was arrested back at the house that day. ‘I just saw him right now, and I know it was one of the guys who was taken away in handcuffs,” he said.’ (Gothamist )
