🗳Organize for the Park Slope mayoral vote: The trends in our neighborhood our clear: a recent poll of 400 Park Slope locals found “nearly three-quarters of the people surveyed hold a negative view of Cuomo.” (The survey was paid for by Uber, which is spending a lot of money around the primary.)
The feeling seems mutual, as Cuomo has used Park Slope as synonymous “this extreme left wing” on the mayoral stump. Park Slope’s Assemblymember Robert Carroll and City Council Member Shahana Hanif both endorse the Brad Lander and Zohran Mamdani for mayor.
New York’s June 24 mayoral primary may be close—Eric Adams only won by ~7K votes. And in a politically homogeneous neighborhood like ours, you can effect a political shift just by activating your neighbors.
NYC Politics 101’s Primary Bootcamp outlines a number of tactics: creating a Whatsapp group of 5+ neighbors, inviting neighbors over for pastries / happy hour; reminding 5 more people to register to vote by June 14; or sharing a voter guide with your neighbors. TL;DR: If you want to influence the election, you can start by nudging your neighbors.
🌽🍅$10,000 for CHiPS on 4th Ave: “Yesterday, I announced an additional $10,000 each for Gotham Foor Pantry and CHiPS, two essential community food pantry providers facing significant challenges due to sudden disruptions in federal support, inflation, tariffs, and rising food costs,” Council Member Hanif wrote on Instagram. “As Trump, Musk, and Congressional Republicans cut anti-hunger initiatives, I’m proud to support these orgs in continuing their work in our community.” (Council Member Hanif’s IG and CHiPS Donation Page)
🎓🌼🌸Learn How To Green Your Block @ Brooklyn Botanic Garden: “Jibreel Cooper, Kira Louzoun-Heisler, Nina Browne, and Greenest Block winners Ever wondered what it takes to make your block greener? The ‘world’s hottest gummy bear’ is for sale @ Fferins: “‘ I don't want them to have it here. I tell them to do it elsewhere,’ McGrath said. ‘I’ve seen people that have had it — they cried, lay on the floor, state of undress, rocking. There was lots of milk involved.’” (Gothamist)
MSG spends big to on Park Slope City Council race: “Hanif, who co-chairs the Council’s Progressive Caucus, has been a critic of MSG CEO James Dolan, introducing a bill last year to ban facial recognition technology used by MSG. That measure has since stalled in committee, after heavy lobbying against it from MSG, the Daily News reported. Hanif is also facing the only negative campaigning reported thus far by an outside group in a Council race, from a group called Brooklyn BridgeBuilders.” (The City)
